For military families, holidays can sometimes be challenging. Some of us are far away from our extended families and some have loved ones serving overseas on deployments. Video calls (Skype, FaceTime etc.) allow our loved ones who are far away, including those deployed, to enjoy the holiday with us. Setting up a call for the holiday dinner, Easter egg hunts etc., can help those far from home feel like they are able to celebrate right along with us.
Fortunately, there are many opportunities to celebrate the holidays locally, whatever our circumstances may be.
Local Military Bases:
Check with your local military base to find out what activities are available. With April also being The Month of the Military Child, there are many activities going on throughout the month, including Easter egg hunts, carnivals with inflatables, face painting, games, music, food, prizes and giveaways to mention a few. Religious services are also available for Easter and Passover.
As for our deployed loved ones, most of the larger bases recognize the holidays and provide activities while down range, mainly in the form of fun runs.
In your local community, activities include religious services for both Easter and Passover, Easter egg hunts, photos with the Easter Bunny, carnivals, a variety of contests, prizes, etc. Check with your church or synagogue, local newspaper or community resources for activities in your area.
